Scar gazing.
“Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.” (1 Peter 4:1-2 msg)
When you are willing to suffer, the nerve center of sin is severed in your life. You totally (or finally) realize that you are NOT living ONLY for what you want or what feels good & comfortable to you. You can clearly prove to yourself and others that your purpose in this life is not to live for your own pleasure but according to God's will and for His glory. (reworded, in part, from ESV study bible).
The things you crave are now possible because they are in keeping with His BEST plans that are at work in and through you.
Ultimately, we find strength and courage in the understanding that Jesus is the King of Pain. He conquered it and enables us to embrace it and endure it. He reveals and removes our sin through it. And He fine-tunes our purpose & destiny. Pain is necessary but NOT forever. Continue to smile through the trial. His glory in it will navigate you through it.
Note: one of the biggest ways God reveals your heart and character is when He allows someone else, who you love, to suffer. Wow, that's a tough one that has taught me SO much about my faith and commitment.
