Recalibrate
Wow, it's already the middle of February! 2024 is screaming by SO FAST! Yet, with that said, many things in my life don’t seem to be progressing fast enough. I’m a living paradox!
I just returned from visiting Springfield, Missouri — my son, Chase, had a campus tour and interview at Evangel University which went amazing and he is all set to receive several scholarships and grants as he pursues God’s call (beginning this Fall). We also had the joy of visiting my parents, Pops and Sharon! It was so refreshing and encouraging! They’re so loving, kind and generous! I also was able to have lunch with my friend Doug Clay, who is the General Superintendent (Leader) of the Assemblies of God. We’ve been friends 30 years and my time with him was so relaxed, insightful and refreshing!
Now, after returning home from that 36 hour Springfield marathon, I’m overjoyed to be with my Queen! We slipped away yesterday to enjoy a Valentine’s Day “Thai lunch” before I washed the car (now over 200K miles) and got back to driving Uber… yeah… sigh. Uber is definitely not my life’s calling and it becomes more difficult each day but it is my hustle for now and it helps me provide for the family.
I’M READY FOR MY NEXT ADVENTURE AND ASSIGNMENT FROM GOD!
I appreciate where God has brought me and I anticipate where God is about to lead me. There’s a lot of nervous energy, crazy dreams, hope-filled prayers and detailed internet searches involved. Plus, chats with my friends & allies and various tests, surveys and forms filled out on staffing sites.
During unique times like this, I become contemplative and strive to lean in to God’s voice with deeper trust and sincere hunger to know Him better and serve him bigger!
I wake up in the middle of the night, quite often, with that overwhelming passion that says,
"there's still so much I want to accomplish!"
It's during times like this that I strive to recalibrate (a term I learned from a couple of my engineer friends during my Detroit days). I’m asking the Holy Spirit to bring clarity to my life — to make sure I'm being efficient, accurate and effective. I don't want this crazy weird time of isolation, and more frequent silence, to blow by with me finding myself - months down the road - thinking…
"I should have... "
So, throughout this week (so far), I've been looking and praying about my roles, responsibilities, and relationships and also scanning through my journal and praying for truth & purpose. I want my life to count! Not just in the big things but also in the details.
I want those considering me as an employee, pastor or leader to KNOW that they can trust me, depend on me and consider me a good investment for their life and/or their church.
I want my wife to see me growing, changing, leading and loving in more tangible ways.
I want my kids to know that they are loved, empowered, protected and believed in 110%!
I want better friendships.
I want to be better at raising up leaders & disciples — at bringing out the best in younger ministers, pastors and students.
I want to crush this life for Christ better than any previous time in my life or ministry!
I'm ready, journal in hand, to write down whatever God brings to my heart. This will help me accomplish the things God is revealing. And, trust me, there's some crazy HUGE things God is stirring in my heart and preparing for my future! I'm seeking God HARD to discover His timing and strategy -- no time to be passive... I don't want to just be close, I want to HIT THE BULLSEYE!
Maybe you’re in a place similar right now — maybe you’re in a new season of life where you’re dealing with new schedules, environments, isolation and OPPORTUNITY. Maybe we can challenge each other a bit right now? Yeah?
Let's be transparent!
Let's keep growing!
Let's be courageous!
As a way of being deliberate, here’s some things I’m thinking about… Maybe, if you want to, you could share too? Here’s how: In the comments, number 1-7 and answer the following:
What book are you reading right now (besides Bible)? Recommend it?
What music album is your favorite right now? Why?
Do you write in a journal? How frequent? How personal is it?
When do you pray and read your Bible each day?
What is your fitness goal(s) for the next 3 months? Do you work out and/or diet?
How much silence to you get each day where you think/dream/meditate?
Who is your mentor? Do they know they're your mentor? How's do you keep it real?
My personal answers to the above 7 questions is the first in the comments. Join the discussion.
Today is YOUR DAY & MINE to RECALIBRATE — some day,, let’s look back and remember it as the time God did some crazy awesome things IN and THROUGH each of us!
